Heaven
The Facts about Eternity
There are big questions that haunt all of us. What happens when I die? Where will I spend eternity? The single most important question that you will ever answer is this - "If I were to die today, would I spend eternity in Heaven with God?" Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.
The Bible tells us in I John 5:13, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life..." The simple truth is God wants you to know where you're going to spend eternity!
Fact 1 - You are a sinner.
Every person is a sinner because they have disobeyed God. Sin is any action contrary to God's laws and
commandments and those sins seperate me from God. Sin also has a penalty. Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages
of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The "wage" or payment
for our sin is eternal seperation from God.
(Isaiah 59:6 | Romans 3:10 | Romans 3:23)
Fact 2 - You can't save yourself.
People all over the world have tried to create ways to reconcile their relationship with God. Many religions
try to create their own ways to God. Their systems may seem logical, but they cannot span the gap created by our
sin. We must approach God His way, not our way. The Bible is clear that no one can earn heaven by their good works.
(Ephesians 2:8-9 | Titus 3:5 | Romans 4:4-5)
Fact 3 - God provides a way to remove our sin.
Even though we were lost and separated from God, He loved us, and because He is love, God sent His Son to
die on the Cross and raised Him from the dead three days later. John 3:16 explains "For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, He became the payment for our sin. Now, we do not have to pay for
our sin ourselves. We never could! By His grace, salvation is provided. In Romans 5:8, the Bible says, "But God commendeth
[meaning proved or demonstrated] his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
(1 Peter 2:23 | Romans 5:8 | 2 Corinthians 5:21 | Romans 10:9)
Fact 4 - You can receive Jesus Christ through faith.
In order to have a relationship with God and an eternal home in Heaven, we must stop trusting ourselves, our works, and our religions, and place our full trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of our sin and eternal life. In Roman 10:13 the Bible says, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." God's Word says that if you will pray to Him, confess that you are a sinner, ask Him to forgive your sins, and turn to Him alone to be your Saviour; He promises to save you and give you the free gift of eternal life. You can make that decision today by praying from your heart, something like this:
Heavenly Father, I am a sinner and I need a Savior. Right now I turn from my sin and
accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I believe that Jesus Christ died and was buried and rose again from the
grave to pay for my sin and provide the way to heaven. I am trusting in Jesus alone for salvation, not in any
works of righteousness that I have done or will do. Please come into my heart and make me your child based on
the facts.
Father, I thank you for saving me. In Jesus name. Amen.
