Our History

Silver City Baptist Church is the result of a burden placed on the heart of Pastor David and Cherri Cooper, missionary church planters. After turning the first church they started over to the leadership of a full-time pastor, the Coopers sought God's direction for a new location to establish a new independent Baptist Church. With financial and prayer support of twenty-six churches and several individuals, they began the Silver City Baptist Church. After months of door to door visitation and an extensive phone campaign, the church held its first public service on October 17, 1993 at the Leddy School in Taunton.

In December of 2001, as the church planned to become a self-supporting church, a call was extended by the church to Pastor Cooper to remain as pastor of the church. Pastor Cooper accepted the call in January of 2002. Being born out of a missionary burden by others, the church seeks to maintain that same missionary emphasis. This emphasis is demonstrated by providing financial and prayer support to eleven missionary families. Plans are also being made to establish daughter churches in the surrounding areas in the years to come. The church provides a Bible teaching ministry designed to minister to the whole family. Bible School classes are held each Sunday morning at 9:30 AM for all ages including a nursery for babies. The church has an interpreter for the deaf. There are specific ministries for teens, ladies and men including annual retreats, regular Bible studies and other activities. The church's purpose is to produce mature reproducing disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that it is God's desire for individuals to know Him personally and to enjoy His presence, fellowship and guidance on a daily basis.
